INFORMATION

We’re so glad that you’re going to be joining us for an exciting day of co-writing a song!

During this workshop, you will be paired with another songwriter using the criteria that you provided on your registration form. We will use our best judgement to pair you with someone you’ll write well with. Additionally, song “mentors” will visit each group to offer guidance or suggestions.

WHAT TO BRING:

  • Writing Materials: whatever you prefer – whether it be a laptop or pen and paper.
  • Instrument: Feel free to bring your instrument with you, keyboards included. You will likely use it in your co-writing session.  You will also need to bring your own amps and power cables, if necessary.
  • Performance Attire: Bring an outfit to wear during your performance at the Song Reveal concert, if different from your daily wear.
  • Good attitude: Come with a positive attitude and leave your ego (not that you have one) at the door.

AND PLEASE DON’T FORGET…

  • Bag Lunch or Lunch Money: Coffee & tea will be provided, but we ask that you provide your own meals. There will be a 1 hour lunch break in case you wish to leave the premise for lunch. (Bringing snacks is a good idea too!)

What is Co-writing?

Co-writing a song means that 2 or more people work together and collaborate on a song.

There is no right or wrong way for this process to happen. Sometimes, the writers may talk and get to know each other before starting to write, and other times that may jump right into writing.

One writer may be better with lyrics, the other with melody or rhythm, or both writers may have equal strengths. Either way, it’s imperative for each person to be open to the ideas of the others.

Tips for Co-writing Success:

  •  Be kind and considerate
  • Never say “no” or shoot down ideas
  •  Be open minded
